Day 16 - Bad day Yesterday

Yesterday with the help of the author of the program iRotate and from Sears, member of Origami team, we found that the video driver installed in the eo V7110 and the last one released by VIA does not support screen rotation. So the only thing that we can do is wait...

  1. Personally, I haven't felt I needed rotation when using any of the units...at least for the things I've been mainly using it for (browsing the web, playing/streaming media, viewing pictues, mapping/gps, taking quick notes, e-mail, Sudoku, etc.) But that's just me. :)

  2. Sears, do not feel bad. That's a common problem with Microsoft. Back in 19s Microsoft created what is now known as CE, they thought that nobody would want to use it in landscape mode so they did not add support for landscape until November 2003 with Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition. Now the thing is happening again but in the other way around. Portrait mode is better to read e-books to give you one simple example. To paint in any of the programs available for Tablet PCs. Some people prefer portrait to write/take notes.

But the bottom line, and the more important to me, users should decide what is best ;-)

I know that it's not your fault. I'm seeing in MS Origami team something that is completely new to me. This is the only team that I have seen going to a blog of a nobody to see what this nobody and readers of this nobody think about Origamis. And that something great. I hope that Microsoft will listen to what users want and help us to get back the screen rotation in origamis.

  3. Again, I'm a nobody here, just go around other pages, go around Origami project forum and count how many times the portrait topic have been brought to light. ;)

  4. I'm not saying that it's not a useful feature. I'm just saying that it seems there is a lot of "let down", so to speak, because it isn't an option as of today. Having been a tablet user since before v1, I understand how useful the functionality is. ;) I'd just like to see if it has as much of an impact on your usage/product satisfaction as you think it will.

If it does, then make sure you let TabletKiosk and Via know (I've already passed along the request internally). :)

  5. Thanks Sears, I sent an email to VIA support today. It seems to me that they are the ones that have to change the driver.

I understand what you are saying but I just not picture myself reading an ebook in landscape. :(

  6. Every time that the screen rotation point is brought to light people don't like the fact that UMPC wont have this feature:

I very hope that this changes and the screen rotation is added to this wonderful machines.
