Biocert for your P1610

I upgraded my P1610 to Vista and as result Omnipass, the program distributed by Fujitsu to manage the security with the help of the integrated Authetec fingerprint reader, was not working any more. One of my readers at todoUMPC  recommended me Biocert Intelligent Identity Manager, a program distributed with a different name and in a lite version version by HP.

I have to confess that I downloaded the lite version from HP web site and that, the recommendation of my friend and the low price of just $29.95 helped me in the final decision to pay for the program. And I'm saying this because this one of those cases of a company losing many potential customers because they do not offer a demo or trial of their wonderful program. I know that they may be making a lot of money from the free version distributed by HP but come on... today they are $29.95 richer.

Using this program you can manage the username and password to all your programs and webpages, and believe me, the fingerprint reader used with this tool becomes perfect tool and save you a lot of time. In addition this program includes an e-Wallet, a feature that keeps your Credit Card information that can be used in any online store.

Conclusion

The program perfectly works in my P1610. Another good point is that it works with Firefox and the price is fair, OmniPass cost almost 60 dollars and seems to me heavier from the point of view of the amount of system resources it uses. Biocert is a little bit more confuse than Omnipass but once you learn how to use it you will love it. At least that was my experience.

DIY Low cost multitouch whiteboard

Since the Wiimote can track sources of infrared (IR) light, you can track pens that have an IR led in the tip. By pointing a wiimote at a projection screen or LCD display, you can create very low-cost interactive whiteboards or tablet displays. Since the Wiimote can track upto 4 points, up to 4 pens can be used. It also works great with rear-projected displays.

New mini notebook spotted at Computex

Computex is going and we started to see already reports about what is new or what we are going to see appearing in the market in the next few months or Christmas. 

This is an image of an AMD-based device that has been shown at Computex. Its small, really small. One of the smallest I’ve seen with a full keyboard. It’s got a 7" touchscreen and its 1024×600. Its starting to look nice. AMD’s officials are saying its running Turion and that it’s 1.5 times the processing power of an Atom and will return 2.5hrs video-playback runtime. Its looking very interesting indeed.

Steve at UMPCPortal is speculating that this one is coming from Raon, the maker of the Vegas and Everuns.

The P1600 has an outdoor/indoor screen, fingerprint reader, a modem and a PCMCIA slot. So this one should be cheaper.

MSI Wind notebook review

 Fudzilla has published the first short review of the MSI subnotebook.

The Wind PC notebook, branded simply as U100, has a CPU that is bigger than Neutron but smaller than Molecule, but we don't dare to tell its name before next week. The CPU, as we wrote so many times before, works at 1.6GHz and runs Windows XP really fast. It runs between 700 and 1600MHz, depending on what you do.
The machine is also equipped with 1024MB memory, but the graphics card uses a modest 16MB, whereas the rest is reserved for the system. Another positive surprise is an 80GB Western Digital hard drive, as this is really enough storage for most notebook users. There will be a version with a smaller SSD drive and a smaller screen, but we won’t talk about them today. It measures 260 width x 180mm depth x19-31.5mm height.

As you can read they were not allowed to reveal yet the processor name. A processor running between 700 MHz and 1600 MHz could give this device a decent performance for this category of PC.

I have been using a Fujitsu P1610 for a few weeks and I'm not so happy with how Vista Drivers are working on it. So I wonder if others are using a different set of drivers. I compiled a list of what I'm using here. Please compare it with what you are using and point me to any newest driver.
