Windows 7 installed in a Gigabyte U60

This (Sp) is the first installation reported of Windows 7 in a Gigabyte U60, a UMPC using a VIA 1.2 GHz processor! First impressions, compared with Windows Tablet PC Edition SP3 (1:05 minutes), Windows 7 boots faster, in around 1:00 minute! In overall, Windows 7 performance in that machine is similar to what the author has seen in Windows Tablet PC 2005 Edition SP3! Really good news!

Using a Avox UMPC as Navigation System.

Many people think that UMPC do not work well as Navigation System and one of the complains is that it takes a long time from the moment that you enter into your car and the moment when the GPS Software in your UMPC is ready to be used.

GPS and TV modules for Ahtec Tiny X60GT

TodoUMPC has posted a mini review about the Ahtec Tiny X60GT. Beside the very good pictures of this review it was interesting to see the very smart way the designers used to integrate a GPS and TV receivers on this unit.

As you can see from the above two pictures these two accessories are detachable replacing the original plastic stand in the back of the UMPC. Clever idea!

Gigabyte U60 UMPC review

It helps that big brands such as Fujitsu and Sony are continuing to push for greater awareness of UMPCs and the mobile lifestyle these handy devices have had to offer, but UMPC is still widely regarded as a niche device. Gigabyte’s track record in the IT industry may just help the U60 gain quick recognition in terms of quality and price, but we reckon more work is required in the design department, not forgetting an improvement to the Gigabyte U60's ventilation system. At a price of S$1549 (~US$1029), you'll find the Gigabyte U60 to be an affordable UMPC with decent computing performance to let you take your Internet lifestyle outdoors – if you can look beyond its uninspiring design.

I don't know but I like the design of this and the OQO 02 UMPCs. I really do not need the keyboard but beside the convertible type I think that this way to have the keyboard integrated is one of the best ones.

I have to smile when I read that the VIA C7M is the cooler processor in the market. I really don't know how they measure the temperature but from my own experience I can't say that. In fact, I would think twice before to put that in any advertisement. One thing is for sure, the VIA C7M is a good competitor for the Intel A110. Hey VIA! Yes, I'm talking to you!I know that you read my blog (do not ask me how). What about sending me one of these to check it?

Gigabyte in Taipei

Computex has started and of course we are receiving a lot of news about new notebooks, PCs, and of course UMPCs. The Gigabyte UMPC is not new for us, it will be distributed by a lot of companies with a lot of different names. Anyway... Gigabyte presented it's U60 in Taipei. AVING USA has shot the best detailed pictures of this device that I have seen so far. We are part of the AVING USA news network so we will continue to report here what is going on in Computex.

Gigabyte presented its 6.5-inch UMPC 'U60' featuring VIA C7-M chip, 1.0GHz processor and LED-backlight screen.
