I was reporting few days ago about an eBay seller that is offering 2 Gb of memory for Fujitsu P1610/20 at $129, that's 70% less than the price at Fujitsu’s Website. I ordered one and I received it Today. It's working! My P1610 is now more responsive and I see a lot less HDD activity going on.
Summarizing: A recommended eBay Seller and a recommended upgrade for all P1610/20 owners.
I just found this really good deal in eBay. The memory upgrade that I needed for my P1610. What's good about this deal, well, the price. So far the memory for the P1610/20 can only be bought from Fujitsu at a price of more than $400. This one is for $129 including shipping. According to some comments I found in a forum, it's confirmed, it works in the P1610/20.
I just placed my order.
Fujitsu has released Windows 7 Compatible Drivers for some of devices: P1630, U820, etc… Still has not released yet anything for the P1620 and P1610 series. I hope that this does not mean that this machines are not supported by this company any more.
Like I said yesterday, I have finally W7 installed in my P1610. But… I have been suffering some BSOD talking about tdx.sys. Apparently many other testers have suffered the same problem. It seems to be relative with AV software and the network driver.
I’ll play around tonight with both, the driver and the AV to see if I can finally have my P1610 stabilized.
If you have Vista SP1 installed in your P1610 then you may have this problem.
Windows Vista® SP1 will prevent the shock sensor program from running if the shock sensor is detected during SP1 installation.
And here is the funny thing, the latest shock sensor driver version listed at any of the Fujitsu support sites is the 2.0L20 but looking into Fujitsu Singapore LifeBook FAQ you will find the above issue reported and a new driver version 2.0L20D link. I love Fujitsu’s devices but it’s one of the worse companies supporting their devices with latest drivers.
Fujitsu's Laptops, UMPCs and Tablet PCs are one of the best in the market, no questions about it, but at the same time Fujitsu's Drivers Support is the worse I have seen in a long time. To give you an idea, the Intel video driver for the P1610 listed at Fujitsu web site is from early 2007 and the latest Intel Driver for the 945GM is from June 2008. But wait a minute. That latest driver from Intel does not work well in Fujitsu's P series. It causes a processor overload every time you turn on the unit or when you rotate the screen. That overload cost you around a minute of your time waiting for getting control of your tablet.
Anyway... I found yesterday that there is a newer video driver at Fujitsu Siemens support web site if you look under P1620. The version number is 7.14.10.1329. I installed and I find it working a little better than the latest one listed under the P1610 which is version 7.14.10.1147.
Oh... I updated the list of drivers installed on my P1610, in case anyone wants to compare.
