Good video Frank. One thing people need to realize is that while a very compressed 720p video may play on these devices, you're not seeing them in actual High Definition. For this video you would need a screen res with 720 horizontal lines and likely 1,280 vertical.

ReplyDeleteWhats the format/bitrate of the movie you're playing. Thats more important than the original format in this case. Do you have a link to the original?
I like to talk in terms of mbps when referrring to the video processing power of the UMPCs. For example I know that the Celeron/Pentium UMPCs should be able to handle 6mbps of WMV which is more than enough quality for probably 99% of users.

ReplyDeleteI also tried some of the WMV from this site but I'm having problem with the audio. If I disable the audio the video plays fine without skipping any frames.
I've had problems playing 720p WMVHD at around 6Mbps.

yeap, in my case the sound is making a nasty noise and the video is really choppy. But when I turn off the sound using VLC options, the video plays ok. I do know exactly at this point what is causing the problem. Probably 6 mpbs is too much.
